How to travel using the Pardubice Card

You now have your Pardubice Card. You have found out all the important information from our flyers and web pages and now you can set off and start using Public Transport in the city.

When introducing the Pardubice Card and describing how to obtain it, it was stated that usage of the Pardubice Card depends on whether it is a personalized or a transferable card (non-personalized) and whether it contains a pre-paid season fare or electronic cash for paying one-off fares.

Let's have a look at how to proceed in the following situation.

Pardubice Card with pre-paid season fare

This is the easiest option and is highly recommended for all of our regular customers. In this case, you usually do not have to use the Pardubice Card when boarding and getting off the vehicle. You only present it when being inspected or when boarding a vehicle using the front door during night hours, i.e. between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Besides using the pre-paid season fare, you can save some cash on the Pardubice Card and purchase one-off fares for one or two fellow-passengers with your Pardubice Card. You proceed the same way as if paying for fellow-passengers with a personalized card; you just skip item 1 (see above).

Paying a fare for the card's holder

Fare-collecting terminal
  1. Upon boarding the vehicle, place the Pardubice Card within range of the reader of any of the terminals. The fare will be deducted from the balance according to the respective tariff zone and according to the terminal station of your route. The screen will display information on the price of the purchased fare, the cash balance and the time remaining to purchase a discounted transfer.
  2. When getting off, hold the Card close to any terminal in the vehicle. You will hear the announcement "Oznacen výstup" (Checking out). According to the bus stop where you get off, you will be refunded either the difference in the fare according to the tariff zone or the difference from the provided discount.

You will hear the announcement "Oznacen výstup" (Checking out). According to the bus stop where you get off, you will be refunded either the difference in the fare according to the tariff zone or the difference from the provided discount.

Paying a fare for a non-personalized card holder and fellow-passengers

  1. Upon boarding the vehicle, place the Pardubice Card within range of the reader of any of the terminals. The screen will show the options of purchasing a basic or discounted fare (children below 15 years or retired persons).
  2. The passenger can choose to pay the fare for up to two fellow-passengers by pressing the respective buttons on the touch screen.

Paying additional charge for season fare

The additional charge for a season ticket is used for the additional purchase of a fare in case you have bought a season ticket for Zone I but intend to travel further to Zone I+II. This one-off charge can be paid using the Pardubice Card at the reader terminal or by purchasing a paper ticket from the driver.

If I do not have a Pardubice Card...

There are three options of how to pay the fare.

  1. You can travel with a common paper ticket purchased from ticket vending machines, Points of Sale or authorised dealers. Each vehicle has three fare-collecting terminals equipped with electronic on-vehicle validators. They are always located by the middle and rear doors on the right and on the left by the front door (when entering the vehicle). Immediately after boarding a vehicle, this is where you must validate your ticket. There are two tariff zones for paper tickets, Zone I and I+II (see Tariff Terms and Conditions).
  2. If you do not want to pay your fare using the Pardubice Card or with a pre-purchased paper ticket, it is possible to pay the fare directly to the driver. For this additional sale, after paying the fare, a receipt of payment is issued by the printer at the terminal next to the driver's booth; this should be kept in case of an inspection. It is evident that as an additional service it is the least economical option. Moreover, bus drivers accept only coins and banknotes up to 100 CZK.
  3. The final option of how to purchase a fare is through an SMS ticket. To be able to use this option, you must have the Premium SMS service active on your mobile device.

Fare collection (checking-in) from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Regular lines

You may be aware that during night hours passengers can board vehicles solely using the front door. Fare collection is carried out only using the terminal next to the driver's booth; otherwise, you use your Pardubice Card the same way as during the day. During night hours, all passengers, including passengers with a season fare, shall place their Pardubice Cards in the reader. When getting off, you can use any terminal in the vehicle to check out.

Night service

On night service vehicles, a flat tariff for a ride is applied, regardless of the tariff zone; non-discounted season tickets are also valid. You can board night service vehicles (lines 98 and 99) solely using the front door. A passenger with a pre-paid ticket on their Pardubice Card shall place the card in the reader in the same way as when using public transport vehicles during night hours. Paper tickets cannot be purchased in advance; they shall be purchased from the driver. Upon payment, the ticket is printed out by the driver. An SMS ticket is valid on night service lines as well.

What to do if I lose my Pardubice Card

In case of loss or theft, the Card can be blocked

  • In person at any point of sale after filling in an application and proving your identity,
  • By phone using the password, if you have reported your password in the Application for Pardubice Card. Otherwise, the card cannot be blocked by phone.
  • Contact information: Zákaznické centrum, Pernerova ul. 443, phone number +420 466 899 160 - 163, Point of Sale at Czech Railways station, phone: +420 466 899 165.

By blocking the Card, you prevent funds in your electronic wallet from being spent and your season ticket being misused. Subsequently, upon submission of an application, a new card will be issued to you with the balance of the missing card credited to it. If you have not applied for a new card yet, you can cancel blocking of your Card; in that case, you will be charged a handling charge.
